Natural Remedies for Colds

echinacea flower

What are natural remedies for colds? They can be herbs, homepathics, vitamins, and more.

Recently I felt aches and had a fever. So I turned to some of my natural remedies for colds. Quickly, the fever and aches were gone!

In this list, I mention some brand names. I do not get any money from these companies, I just list what works for me.

NATURAL REMEDIES

Kyolic Aged Garlic Extract. This formula also has Vitamin C, astragalus root, the mushrooms shiitake, maitake, poria cocos, reishi and agaricus, oregano extract and olive leaf extract. All these are good for stimulating immunity.

The Kyolic company uses garlic that is odorless and aged, which they claim makes it more bioavailable. Their website, Kyolic.com has lots of science on garlic.

If you want to eat garlic for a remedy, the therapeutic dose is 2-3 whole cloves daily with meals, either cooked or raw, says herbalist Christopher Hobbs.

Oregano Oil has broad spectrum anti microbial activity against germs, fungus, and viruses. It's a natural antibiotic and good for colds and flu. It is strong stuff!

Bee Propolis. this is a resin mixture that honey bees collect from trees and flowers. Natural healers use it to strengthen immunity. It is proven immumomodulator.(meaning it affects immunity)

Vitamin D-3, from Quantum Nutrition Labs. Vitamin D stimulates immunity. That's why sunlight is healing. It is healing to take Vitamin D in the winter when sunlight is less.

Super Echinacea, from Herb Pharm, a company I trust who uses organic herbs. It's a tincture. It has the root, leaf, flower and seeds of echinacea tinctured in alcohol. Echinacea stimulates immunity. Research has shown that it reduces the length of a cold.

To make echinacea tea: simmer 1 tsp of the chopped root or leaf in 1 cup water for 10 minutes, and then steep this for 15 minutes. Drink 1 cup , several times a day.

If you can only find the echinacea in individual tea bags (such as Traditional Medicinals teas) use 2 or even 3 tea bags per tea cup, to make it medicinal.

Super Silver Solution, from International Health. This is colloidal silver, but safer than most silver because it is nano particles, very small particles of silver. Silver is a natural antibiotic, anti-fungal anti viral, and basically kills everything. A small amount goes a long way.

Influenza Multi-Strain Flu Medicine. A homeopathic remedy from the King Bio company. it is a pure water based homeopathic with no alcohol, and good for the environmentally sensitive person.

Ginger Tea. Ginger is a warming herb that treats colds and flu, and also helps circulation and digestion. It's my current favorite herb that keeps me warm in winter.

To make the tea, Just slice 6 thin pieces of the rhizome and put in a small pot with 1 cup water. Bring to a boil, then simmer for 20 minutes. Strain and drink. Use about 2-3 cups in a day.

If you have dried ginger, use 1 tsp dried herb for every cup of water. Drink 1 cup 2-3 times a day, best around mealtimes.

Lemon Balm Tea is used to lower fevers. It is cooling. It is anti-viral, and relaxing. It's gentle and good for children. Take about 1 Tbsp lemon balm leaves, add 1 cup boiling water over them and steep for 10 to 20 minutes. Strain and drink.
