Care for your Beautiful Soul
Along with a whole foods diet, soul care is healing. Here's some ideas I use to heal my soul and have more joy. May they inspire you!
First, question the cultural demand for speed, achievement and glamour! That's a start to this journey. In our culture, we move fast, multi-tasking and accomplishing many things. We desire to be an outward success. Running life as a race may lead to outer success, but what is the point if our soul is unfulfilled and our health begins to fail? We may need to re-define success and fulfillment.
A more soulful way As we move fast, we miss the meaning and magic of life. But we need soul care: time for friends and family, to eat in peace, to make art, dance, or sing, to experience rituals, magic, journaling, and more. Let your soul tell you what she wants. learn to play! Life can have joyful rituals, bird songs, and work that makes your heart sing. There are folks who are creating a joyful life. God bless them! Because of these soul care pioneers, it is getting easier for all of us to create a soulful life.
What is your True Success? What is your definition of success, apart from what your parents, teachers and culture tells you? Maybe your success is having confidence, joy, feeling included, being creative, serving life, being with family, etc. Be true to yourself. Know what you value and who you are. Ask you inner child and your wiser self. You may want to journal about it. Pull away from the mass consciousness of "hurry hurry," and be true to you. Here's a way to tap into your soul: Journal with your non-dominant hand. Write questions with your dominant hand, then write a response with your non-dominant hand. You may get some interesting insights!
Love your Soul, Feed your Body Soul care will help you with your food choices. My advice: put away the scale, forget the diet foods. Eat real, whole foods and learn to love yourself and have compassion for your feelings, all of them. They all have a story. I've heard it said that your feelings have feelings! they are like children... Your anger, fears and doubts all have a reason for being in your life. listen to them.
Body, Soul and your Inner Child “It seems to me that our three basic needs, for food and security and love, are so mixed and mingled and entwined that we cannot straightly think of one without the others. So it happens that when I write of hunger, I am really writing about love and the hunger for it, and warmth and the love of it… It is all one.” --M.F. K. Fischer
The body and soul are in a dance. A strong body helps the soul feel safe, and a happy soul help us choose the best food for our body. What is the soul? To me, the soul is the inner child. She is in the body, and holds our emotional pain as well as our joy, creativity and talents. If the soul is ignored or abandoned, she may be lost, hidden or angry. But she still acts. An unhappy soul can sabotage our health plans. If we ignore her, she will demand chocolate chips and ice cream! Or we may choose food to buffer ourselves from the harsh vibes of the world. We may choose food for love, comfort, protection, or to dull out and avoid our intuition. Love may not be readily available, but food is always there, a comforting substitute who will never leave us. health is a commitment to loving yourself. To not leave or abandon yourself! To heal, we need to both choose quality whole foods and listen to the wisdom and needs of our soul, our inner child.
We can lovingly parent ourselves I like to ask the Divine Mothers to help me with this. This reminds me I am not alone. To me, that's Kuan Yin and Mother Mary. It's a moment by moment practice. I ask: Kuan Yin, what do I need for my soul, for balance? I may get a thought, a simple thing, like drink water, take a break, go walk outside. Or ask your body, what do you need now? For deeper issues, I use energy healing, journaling, and prayer. The way I see it, we are responsible for 4 bodies: our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. We are powerful! We are holistic. Be kind to You Talk yourself up! We so often have negative self talk. We can consciously change this to self acceptance. Praise yourself! Acknowledge your gifts. You are wonderful. If you don't believe this, start small. Praise the little things about you. Let momentum build. be positive and kind toward yourself!
Energy Healing Energy healing helps you flow with life, like the ocean waves! I use energy healing for soul care. TAT (Tapas acupressure technique) and EFT (emotional freedom technique) can release old patterns. And flower essences can help, too. With TAT and EFT, you hold or tap acupressure points while you think about your challenge, be it physical or emotional. The problem loosens up and new insights flow to you. You release old junk, stuck, stuff from the past. It is amazing! My husband Alan was able to quit eating chocolate candy after doing TAT sessions by himself, and he is losing weight! It works. You are changing old beliefs, raising your vibe, letting you inner light shine more brightly. And with the new energy healing techniques available, it is getting easier to do this soul work. With TAT and EFT, you don't even need a therapist, you can do much by yourself. And it's not so painful anymore! I am experimenting with TAT. here's the website for TAT. Here's the website for EFT.
Food for Thought Researchers of the National Weight Control Registry (NWCR) studied which people lost weight and were able to keep it off. Preliminary findings show that "the people who made permanent change somehow combine the mystical and the methodical. They’d all been through an inner transformation almost like those celebrated in traditional rites of passage. Each had found a coach, mentor or guide for the journey and had pulled back and separated somehow from his or her old environment, and then was “reborn” into a different way of life. All subjects had incorporated some meditative elements into their lives.”
Are you a Highly Sensitive Person? Here's another key to the soul puzzle. Some of us are highly sensitive. Researchers say that about 15- 20% of people have a heightened nervous system that takes in more information, and can get overwhelmed. It's a gift and a challenge. We take in more noise, stress, and expectations, and we also take in more beauty, joy and inspiration! Researcher and author Elaine Aron is the expert on the hsp trait. Her book The Highly Sensitive Person is a must read if you are hsp. Her website includes a simple self test to help you see if you are highly sensitive. Here is the website on the highly sensitive person.
As an hsp, my challenge is to schedule down time to relax my nerves and integrate all the information of daily life. If I don't take the time, it can affect my digestion, or cause cravings for sweets to slow me down! My soul desires color art, and spiritual connection as much as I need physical food. I have my own soul care mantra: art, nature, spirit. I like to get these every day. Living simply, resting, enjoying nature are essential to my well being. Loud noise, violent media images, negativity and speed are not so good. What is your soul care mantra?
In Ayurveda, to be healthy in body and spirit, they recommend building ojas, or life force. Here's How to build ojas: laugh and smile a lot take time to relax meditate regularly spend time in nature exercise your creativity offer your gifts to others follow your heart's passion engage in physical activity (from the book "Eat Taste Heal, an Ayurvedic guidebook and cookbook for modern living") We may think soul care is selfish, indulgent, only for vacations, or takes time we don't have. But it is essential to our health. Soul care is essential, just as food is. Here's some more body and soul articles to check out:
